Attention: Women Who Feel Overwhelmed and Lost When It Comes to the Subject of Money

How Much More Money Do You Want To Lose

Simply Because You Have Given Away Control of Your Finances

Because You Fear You’ll Get It Wrong?

Handling money is a huge responsibility, and one that cannot be taken lightly. If you’re like most women, you know that having the peace of mind in knowing that your family will be taken care of, makes a difference in the day-to-day experiences we face.

As a Certified Financial Planner with more than 30 years’ experience, I’ve worked closely with families, divorcees, and widows of the 9-11 tragedy. Most notably, it was the widows and widowers and that tragedy that have influenced a huge part of what I do. I’ve met exceptionally intelligent and professional women who are immobilized at the thought of having to take over the family finances. Even if you have not gone through anything nearly as tragic as September 11, 2001, you still may have doubts about being able to do this for your own family.

Debra MorrisonMy name is Debra Morrison, and I am one of the lucky ones. My grandfather taught me about compounding at a very early age, as he was a stock market investor, yes even during the 20s and 30s. He graciously gave us grandchildren shares of stock to help us pay for college, and I remember holding those stock certificates and revering them. I didn’t really understand WHAT they were worth, yet I KNEW they represented money/currency, and that commanded my attention.

From that moment on, I have been intrigued by all things financial and made it my life’s work to learn and then share that knowledge with as many people as possible, all the while explaining what each aspect is about so that they can knowingly join me on this incredibly powerful and important life journey.

When it was time to choose a career, it was only natural for me to head into financial planning. I first sold life insurance as a 22 year old, and actually led our agency my first year. Yet my heart was in investments. I wanted to help those who get overwhelmed and wide-eyed–like a deer caught in the headlights–whenever the topic of money comes up.

You see, I have a gift; a gift of being able to explain money in a way that women can understand. If you have ever struggled to make the right financial decisions, you know exactly what value that has given your life; what choices that has bought you. Later on, I’ll tell you more about the method I’ve created to help you get wise about money, but first, I want to tell you more about my Program:

Introducing:

The WISE Women’s Guide To Investing

In this program you will learn how to:

    • Be W-I-S-E- so that you can begin to plan for, and fund, the life you’d love to live

    • Discover the benefits of improving your net-worth; you’ll be amazed how often improving your net-worth almost always improves your self-worth!

    • Understand the Concept of RISK so that you don’t waste time or the potential for gains that you otherwise could obtain by investing in safe, guaranteed return instruments like Certificates of Deposit. (They don’t keep up with inflation over time!)

    • Calculate the difference between your return from tax-free and taxable bonds so that you can see how much more sense (& cents & dollars) it makes for some of us to buy taxable ones!

    • Love paying tax – it means you’ve had gains, and made money this year!

    • Do the things you’ve always dreamed of – go places, see things, give back

    • Feel confident knowing that you can ask for, and receive, unbiased help when you need it. (People love helping; you’re giving someone a gift when you ask for help)

How To Untangle Emotion And Money So That You Can Start To
Fund The Life You Long To Live!

After the planes hit the Twin Towers in New York City, and another plane was downed in a PA field, and then the Pentagon was attacked…after what’s now called 9-11, everyone wanted to do something to help. It was such an emotional time for our entire country, and the world at large.

While money was initially the last thing on anyone’s mind, the fear of not having enough money loomed large for many survivors and their families. I was fortunate enough to be able to step in and provide pro bono services to many of the widows and one widower. Their shock and grief was understandably overwhelming; their task of continuing on was daunting.

Some widows suddenly came into quite substantial sums of money; others les,s yet ALL had to find a way to carry on, and to make good choices–good decisions, for themselves, their current family and in some cases, the family to come.

According to a chilling article by The Guardian.co.uk ‘ 9/11 by the Numbers’ 1,300 orphans were created that day. At least, 17 babies were born later in 2001 and in 2002, never to meet the father who been so senselessly snatched away. 10,000 babies were born in the US on September 11, 2001; one was to lose her life in the Tucson Tragedy a mere 9 years later.

Most of those survivors had no idea where to start to rebuild their lives. We started slowly, identifying monthly outflows and matching those to sources of income, and locating assets that in many cases hadn’t been documented.

Learning How To Move On From Loss, (Be It Loss of Savings or The Loss of a Loved One) and Making Sure You Ask All the Right Questions So You Totally Understand How It All Works

There was emotion everywhere; it muddied everyone’s vision and slowed down the process, particularly for the widows. There was anger, at being left alone to handle this; guilt, of perhaps not having asked the right questions ahead of time (and guilt of being the one to survive); and shame – some call it embarrassment – of not understanding the language of money. Phrases like “sustainable withdrawal rate”, “taxable yield”, “effective diversification” and “out-earning inflation” caused eyes to glaze over and a panic to rise up, often accompanied by, “I just don’t understand, can you start again and talk more slowly?” And I did.

And we all progressed. And 10 years later, these women are indeed WISE about money and are living quality lives.

How Many People Feel Empty, Frightened And Alone – Furious That Their Loved One Has Left Them Behind To Handle Things, Without Sharing The Roadmap Or Plan That Was In Progress?

It’s a process, understanding money. It’s certainly not a process to be avoided; we simply can’t AFFORD to avoid it. You can do this; we all can. There is no judgment about ignorance.

Too many women confuse ignorance with stupidity. It’s just not so. Just because you don’t know about money, doesn’t mean you’re stupid. It just means you need more information, from an unbiased source, and I am an effective communicator without investment bias.

What If You Could See RISK as A GOOD Four-Letter Word

Like LOVE, GIFT Or Even, HUGS?

I am a Certified Financial Planner®, with a Master’s of Science in Retirement Planning, and Accredited Estate Planner, still in the active practice of advising clients financially and managing their money. I deal with risk every day as you do. The question remains: “is your portfolio crafted to weather risks?”

With more than 30 years’ experience in the personal finance profession, I was honored as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business and in 2007 as an extraordinary Woman in Finance by the Women’s Fund of NJ. I’m listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who in Finance and Business, all of which is well and good, yet the point of my being here though, the fire in my belly, is helping women overcome their fear about money.

I do that by breaking each complicated topic into bite-sized, understandable nuggets. We then take those nuggets one at a time and use every-day analogies and simple-to-understand language to `bring money home’ to us.
